Candice Barrera (She/Her)

Hello Athena Families!

My name is Candice Barrera and I’m beyond grateful to rejoin Athena’s team as a Floater! I instantly knew when I first stepped foot in the door at Athena in May 2022 that this was the place for me. I felt so welcomed and it was as if I knew the entire staff my whole life. It felt as if I was right at home. In April 2023 I went on parental leave to have my second child, and now I am back!

Prior to Athena, I worked in different management positions. I was given an opportunity to work with children from the ages of 2 to 4-years-old as an assistant teacher, and from that moment on I knew being able to make an impact on children is what I was called to do. The love for children has always held a special place in my heart. Being able to teach, learn, and grow with a child is fascinating to me. The moment I was given an opportunity with Athena, I knew it was meant to be.

I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. In my free time I enjoy crafting, cooking, watching the latest movies, listening to music, dancing, trying new restaurants, and spending time and making memories with my family. In the future I plan on opening my own home daycare. I look forward to learning more about the Montessori philosophy. I’m beyond excited to meet every one of you and to build a bond with each one of you and your children!
