FUND-A-NEED: ESCUELA de MARIA

escuelademarialogoWe have begun to expand our vision of what service means to us and how we can broaden our social impact as an organization.  For this reason, we have chosen to support the efforts of Escuela de Maria, a non-profit organization founded by Athena Directors, Keyla Martinez and Laura Delgado, whose mission includes bringing Montessori education to underserved areas in North and Central America starting with Nicaragua.  Please read more below and visit their website to learn more about this special organization and its efforts!

We are a small non-profit start-up with a mission to bring Montessori education to children in underserved areas in North and Central America. We’re grateful to Athena for featuring us as a special Fund-a-Need project this year, and want to thank those of you who have already contributed to this fund!

We started this project after realizing the need for quality early childhood education in impoverished areas, and, feeling grateful for our own experiences within the Montessori environment, we feel called to make Montessori accessible to all children. Some of our initial goals include providing for the basic needs of children in two rural Nicaraguan schools and someday building our own Montessori school in rural Nicaragua for children who don’t have access to early childhood education. We also plan to provide opportunities for teachers and families with young children to travel to these schools in Nicaragua to engage in service together, share their love of Montessori, learn Spanish, and have fun! We hope you’ll join us in this mission!
