Hello Athena families!
I am so excited for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing community! After working as the operations manager of a martial arts school for the past year, I discovered how much I enjoy the customer focus and office support aspect of school administration and was delighted to take on the receptionist position at Athena. I am also a Montessori certified infant and toddler guide and have been working in early childhood education for almost 15 years. The intersection of office admin and child development in this role have made it an ideal fit for me.
I am one of a family of 6 children and was homeschooled until college. I didn’t realize until much later that my education naturally followed an approach very similar to the Montessori method. My guide (aka mom) taught us about the things we showed interest in as we showed interest in them and then set us free to delve as deeply into learning as we wanted. If there was something one of us wanted to learn, she got us a book and let us teach ourselves how to do it. This unconventional education led me to a lifelong love of learning and a passion for helping to instill that in others. So when I decided to go into early childhood education, Montessori was the first and only choice for me.
When I’m not working I can usually be found at my karate school teaching youth classes, coaching the demonstration team, or furthering my martial arts education. I also enjoy reading, hiking with my dog, traveling, and embarrassing my teenage son in front of his friends.
I am thankful to have found a home here at Athena and I’m looking forward to the year ahead and getting to know all the children and families that make up this wonderful community!
