Hello families and friends!
My name is Elliot and I am beyond excited to be joining the Athena team! I’ve lived all over Texas, and even spent a few years in Seattle, Washington, but I am happy to call Austin home. I moved here after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Texas State in 2019 with a degree in International Studies and a minor in French, in addition to an associate’s degree in Fine Art from Blinn College.
I found my calling as a Montessori teacher soon after graduating. While still in school, I had planned on pursuing a career in law with a dream of building a more loving and peaceful world. However, after completing an internship with the criminal division of the Hays County District Attorney’s Office, it became clear that law was not the right avenue for me to pursue this dream. While working a miserable retail job to pay the bills after graduation, I realized the best parts of my day were always the moments I got to interact with children. This realization inspired me to apply as a substitute for a Montessori school where I immediately fell in love with the education system Montessori provides and the boundless imagination of young minds. Ever since, I have fervently pursued a career in childcare.
I am drawn to the Montessori style of early education, as I believe learning truly begins when a child feels respected, supported, and safe. The peaceful language and emphasis on compassion for the environment and other students ensures a sense of community in the school that is foundational to a child’s growth. The Montessori philosophy aligns with my own belief that each individual learns in their own unique way, and is particularly beneficial to children with developmental disorders or impairments. As someone who aspires to work in child psychology as an art therapist one day, I value the emphasis on the emotional and social growth of children, which is often neglected in curriculum-based styles of early childhood education. The Montessori system allows children to build a strong sense of self alongside their social skills, and empowers young ones to grow into unique, self-reliant individuals. I am delighted to be part of Athena Montessori Academy because I believe this institution truly embodies the Montessori philosophy. I value the emphasis on providing an inclusive atmosphere and level of individualized care Athena provides. I am especially excited to work in a three-year Montessori cycle, as it supports strong social development and encourages community learning.
Outside of the classroom, I am an artist, gardener, musician, and devoted yogi. I live with my two cats (Frankie Banjo and Pepper Neptune), my wonderful partner, and many, many plants. I love my work and am so honored to be part of your child’s journey. I can’t wait to meet you all!
