Movers & Shakers
Movers & Shakers is Athena's program for our youngest students—infants and young toddlers from three months through two years old. The program serves nine students with three full-time Guides, providing a 3:1 ratio. Movers & Shakers is typically a one-year program, with transitions to Tots based on each child's developmental readiness and the availability of space.
Most Montessori schools call this an Infant or Nido program. We call ours Movers & Shakers—a name we made up to reflect the remarkable transformation that takes place during this stage of development.
Children who begin their time with us just learning to lift their heads, reach for objects, or settle into a Guide's arms can finish the year sitting independently, moving through their environment, exploring materials, communicating their needs, and engaging with the other children around them. It is a beautiful thing to witness.

Nap
All Movers & Shakers students will have supervised nap periods that allow them to maintain their own pattern of sleeping and waking periods.
Program Hours & Ratios
Half Day: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
School Day: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
School Day: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

The Montessori approach for the young child promotes independence and helps to develop confidence, while allowing the child to become familiar with their intrinsic curiosity for life. These principles are fostered in our Movers & Shakers room by attuning to when the child feels their needs should be heard; observing and intervening when necessary, always being aware of the child’s space and allowing for them to attempt mastery of a developmentally appropriate skill; providing consistent routines and rituals that meet the child’s expectations; giving the children a secure space to explore and identify their interests; and working in partnership with parents to assure consistency and connection between home and school.
