Alexis Duran (She/Her)

Hello All!

My name is Alexis Duran and I'm so excited to be joining the Athena community!

I grew up in a small town in Texas and started pursuing my passion for teaching in high school by signing up for an elective course called Ready, Set, Teach. This allowed me to shadow a teacher and explore education by guiding others in a lesson. From there I went to Texas State University to earn a degree in Family and Consumer Science.

Although I originally went in to teach high schoolers, I was drawn to younger kids after graduating. Their creativity and constant exploration of the world amazes me, and that's why I love how the Montessori philosophy encourages and celebrates those things. It allows children to build up their own love of education by setting their own pace, and by guiding them through skills they can use for the rest of their lives.

In my free time I love to spend time with my friends and family, go to concerts, bake, cook, and play with my dog BMO.
