Candice Barrera (She/Her)

Hello Athena Families!

My name is Candice Barrera and this is my third school year at Athena! In May 2022 I became an Assistant Guide for P5, then in April 2023 I went on maternity leave to have my son. I came back in January 2024 as a Floater/Assistant Guide in P3 and this school year I will be rejoining P5 as an Assistant Guide. When I first joined the Athena community I knew that this was the place for me, I felt so welcomed.

Prior to Athena, I spent 10 years working in different management positions. I was given an opportunity to work with children from the ages of 2-4 as an assistant teacher and from that moment on I knew making an impact on children is what I was called to do. The love for children has always held a special place in my heart. Being able to teach, learn and grow with a child is fascinating to me. The moment I was given an opportunity with Athena, I knew it was meant to be.

I was born and raised in Austin. In my free time I enjoy crafting, cooking, watching the latest movies, listening to music, dancing, trying new restaurants, and spending time and making memories with my family. In the future I plan on opening my own home daycare. I look forward to learning more about the Montessori philosophy. I’m beyond excited to meet you and build a bond with you and your children!
