Monika Weglicka (She/Her)

Primary 5 Lead Guide
Hello,

My name is Monika Weglicka and I am very excited to begin my journey with Athena Montessori Academy.

I was born and raised in Poland, where I earned a master's degree in Special Education and a diploma in Speech and Language Therapy. My family then relocated to Scotland due to my husband’s job, and we spent 20 wonderful years there. After dedicating the initial years to raising my children, I resumed my teaching career, working for over 10 years as an elementary school teacher for children with additional needs. This experience provided me with an in-depth understanding of children's sensory needs and extensive experience in addressing them effectively.

I cherished my time in Scotland not only for the professional growth it offered but also for the rich sense of community, the warmth and tremendous sense of humor of Scottish people, and the natural beauty of the country. These experiences have shaped my approach to teaching and my appreciation for diverse cultures and environments.

Eleven years ago, I moved to Austin, where I was introduced to the Montessori philosophy. I quickly fell in love with it and decided to pursue Montessori teaching qualifications. I have been a Montessori teacher for 8 years now and I am passionate about fostering children’s natural curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through hands-on learning and real-world experiences. What I find most inspiring about Montessori is the child-centered approach, which addresses the individual needs of each child, fostering their independence, confidence, and a genuine love for discovery.

In my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, reading books, engaging in winter sports, hiking, and exploring National Parks during summer vacations. I also love spending quality time with my husband and our two children, and socializing with my friends.

I am looking forward to my new journey at Athena Montessori Academy and being a part of your vibrant community.

Warm regards,
Monika
